When her childhood best friend shows up to rent the entire second floor of her soon-to-be bed & breakfast, she has no idea he's actually a prince-or that their old falling out is about to turn into something far more complicated than a simple roommate situation.

But I teach junior high, and I know there's something he's not telling me.

Between our shared early-morning walks, late-night conversations about fixing up the house, and the way he takes care of me when I'm sick, he's starting to rebuild my faith in him.

And when he looks at me in a way more friendly way than "just roommates," I almost forget the terrible things he did to seventeen-year-old me.

We seem to be from opposite worlds, but maybe some childhood friendships are worth salvaging.

Maybe some enemies can become friends...and then more.

And maybe, just maybe, my perfect happily ever after moved upstairs when I wasn't looking.
