Destacado exponente del informalismo europeo, Pierre Alechinsky (Bruselas, 1927) fue miembro del grupo CoBrA, junto con otros artistas como Asger Jorn o Karl Appel. Profundamente influido por el surrealismo y por el expresionismo, sus trabajos engranan también con esa corriente que, bien representada por Jean Dubuffet, creyó descubrir en el folklore tradicional, en ciertas formas de artesanía o en las creaciones plásticas de niños y enfermos mentales, una pureza incontaminada capaz de revitalizar el esclerótico mundo del arte institucional. Tintas, acuarelas y grabados conforman esta gran retrospectiva de su obra Sobre papel, a la que el CBA dedica dos de sus salas de exposiciones. La muestra ofrece una amplia aproximación a casi cincuenta años de trabajo -o tal vez habría que decir de juego, pues la vertiente lúdica está siempre presente en el proceder de Alechinsky-. El presente catálogo, por su parte, da prueba de las excelentes relaciones del artista belga con el universo de habla hispana: colaborador de Alberto Gironella, buen amigo de Antonio Saura y Eduardo Arroyo, Julio Cortázar, el mismo Saura y Octavio Paz le dedicaron textos que aquí se reproducen, junto con un apasionante análisis de su obra a cargo de Javier Arnaldo.
