Philosopher Eugen Dühring, with great sound and fury, attempted to create a system that could challenge and replace Marxism. Friedrich Engels' response is a ruthless critique of Dühring philosophy as detailed in this book that was originally published as a series of articles for the Social Democratic Party of Germany. Engels allows Dühring his hour on the stage, but through an exploration of dialectic philosophy and historical materialism -the hallmarks of Marxism- Engels exposes Dühring's system for what it is; a tale told by an idiot, signifying nothing.
This work is ultimately a staple of the Marxist canon. In Anti-Dühring, Engels synthesizes of the foundational elements of Marxism by starting with a discussion of philosophical foundations, moving to an exploration of political economy, and finally moving into the scientific conception of Socialism. Anti-Dühring not only functions as a rebuke of Eugen Dühring's thought, but also as a synopsis of the systematic theoretical groundwork laid by the founders of Scientific Socialism.
This edition includes a foreword by Alex Hertz, Political Education Program Director of the Revolutionary Education and Action League (REAL). REAL is an organization based in Central Florida dedicated to uniting Theory and Action to develop class consciousness among American workers.
