Investigations into the chemical and biological activities of plant during the past centuries have yielded compounds for the development of modern synthetic organic chemistry, and the emergence of medicinal chemistry as a major route for the discovery of novel and more effective therapeutic agents. Garcinia kola, from the family of Guttiferae, which is highly valued in Nigeria because of it s edible nut, is a plant that exhibits very potent pharmacological activities such as antioxidant, antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, anti-inflammatory properties. In view of this properties the antioxidant potential of the leaf was studied.
