Reconnu pour la richesse et la diversité de ses cultures,le Bénin ne s'est en revanche pas encore doté de textes législatifs et réglementaires suffisants pour protéger les biens culturels.Dans la pratique,le patrimoine culturel béninois est régi par deux textes fondamentaux: - la Loi portant protection du Patrimoine culturel et du Patrimoine naturel ŕ caractčre culturel en République du Bénin; - la Charte culturelle(Loi n°91-0006 du 25 Février 1991). Face donc ŕ ces difficultés juridiques qui caractérisent la protection du patrimoine culturel béninois,il est urgent d'élaborer et actualiser des textes législatifs et réglementaires applicables.Les actions futures doivent notamment permettre: -l'élaboration et l'actualisation des textes législatifs et réglementaires en matičre de protection muséographique; -l'institution d'une loi relative ŕ la gestion des musées; -l'institution d'une loi relative sur la circulation des collections; -le statut régissant les musées nationaux et privés. La mise en oeuvre de ces objectifs,suscitera des espoirs quant ŕ l'avenir du patrimoine culturel béninois.
