Ronald Brickman and his sons have abducted young girls, held them captive, and forced them to die rather than let them escape. With the town reeling from the truth, the killers flee north, carrying stolen money and stolen lives with them.

In Utah, the Brickmans hide in plain sight behind a respectable Mormon identity. Uzziah, Immanuel, Major Wolfe, Corporal Albert McNeil, Abigail Kincaid, and a company of Texas Rangers and Buffalo Soldiers go undercover as miners to expose the family's crimes. But the Brickmans have powerful allies, the Danites are willing to fight, and the Rangers have no legal authority in the territory.

To bring the killers back to Texas, Uzziah and Immanuel will need disguises, rifles, and help from people with every reason to look away.
