Captain Sandbox and the Big Sandcastle

Captain Sandbox is ready for a super day of play, until his little sister Jenny's sandcastle tumbles down. Jenny begins to cry, but Captain Sandbox is already on his way. "Don't worry. I can help!"

With a glow of his hands and a cry of "Sandy save!", Captain Sandbox lifts the sand into a tower, a sandy bridge, and then a castle bigger than either of them. Big... Bigger... BIGGEST! But when the two step inside, the walls start to wobble, wobble, wobble, and the whole castle comes crashing down. Out pop two sandy heads, and both of them are laughing.

Jenny suggests a smaller castle, and this time Captain Sandbox builds it slow and strong while Jenny adds the finishing touch, a bright red flag. Then Captain Sandbox says, "Let's share!" and brings out a bucket of treasures. With water and two little boats added, the sandbox becomes the best playground in the neighborhood. Along the way, the two discover that big isn't always best, and that working together is.

Captain Sandbox and the Big Sandcastle is a cheerful, read-aloud picture book for ages 3 to 6. Short, rhythmic text full of sound words and repeated phrases invites little listeners to join in. It is a gentle story about teamwork, sharing, kindness, and bouncing back when things fall apart.
