Born in a traditional Liberian home, Rosana Schaack's life began under the shadow of fear and superstition. At two years old, a sudden fever struck without warning. Days later, she collapsed while trying to walk and could no longer stand on her right leg. Suspicion spread quickly through the community. Some said she was cursed. Others believed an evil spirit had claimed her. A Medicine Man delivered the final verdict: "A dragon has swallowed her leg." Her father's belief that "girls have no value" only deepened when it seemed her fate was sealed.
Chosen Warrior is the gripping true story of a girl who survived disability, war, hunger, loss, and near death to become one of Liberia's leading voices for women and children.
Raised between a traditional African home and an American missionary family, Rosana learned early how fragile life could be. Then Liberia erupted into civil war. As the country collapsed, she worked as a nurse under siege-delivering babies during gunfire, moving through rebel checkpoints where a name, accent, or hairstyle could mean execution, and helping desperate civilians flee through the chaos.
But survival was only the beginning.
Haunted by what she witnessed during the war, Rosana dedicated her life to rescuing girls the world had forgotten-child soldiers, trafficking survivors, abused children, and young women with nowhere left to turn. She founded THINK (Touching Humanity In Need of Kindness), built safe homes from almost nothing, and eventually rose to serve in Liberia's national legislature, fighting to change laws and challenge generations of silence and injustice.
