This book reports on the obstacles to HIV prevention, treatment and care in public universities in South Africa, AIDS-related stigma as a ranking impediment to HIV and AIDS treatment, care and support in South African public universities in the KwaZulu-Natal province, and intervention programmes that tertiary institutions in the KwaZulu-Natal province have put in place for HIV and AIDS care, support and prevention. The research problem is related to the HIV and AIDS infection rate in South Africa, which is one of the highest in the world. This book therefore intends to provide government, the education sector, policy makers, AIDS activists, researchers and health professionals with information that may assist them in their decision-making processes and help them take appropriate actions with regard to intervention programmes. Students in their productive years are the population that is most at risk, and many countries, including South Africa have faced a slowdown in economic growth and an increase in household poverty. Thus it is befitting to pay attention to the intervention programmes that tertiary institutions have put in place for HIV and AIDS care, treatment and support.
