Parmi les graffeurs célèbres du métro des années 1970 à New York, il y avait un talent sans prétention de la banlieue du Queens. Le rocker italo-américain qui a écrit «DON 1 MAFIA» a déferlé sur la scène comme une météorite sortie de nulle part. Son influence sur cette forme d'art a transcendé le centre-ville et il est devenu une légende et un nom bien connu. Mais sa descente au sommet de ce jeu de noms, résultat du style de vie hédoniste de New York à l'époque, était aussi rapide et DON1 vivait dans l'obscurité. Photographe étudiant à la prestigieuse école d'art et de design, DON1 a heureusement documenté son travail iconique, ainsi que celui de ses contemporains bien connus, à l'aide de son appareil photo de confiance de 35 mm. Cette œuvre pénétrante emmène le lecteur dans la supernova qui était la vie créatrice de DON1 avec près de 200 photos de graffitis jamais vues auparavant des lignes de train les plus non documentées de New York et un aperçu encore plus rare de son livre noir.
