Le Kerala est riche de ses traditions vernaculaires et de son patrimoine bâti. De nombreuses études ont porté sur l'architecture traditionnelle du Kerala, mais l'architecture tribale, qui est la forme la plus pure de l'architecture vernaculaire du Kerala, n'est pas encore traitée avec suffisamment d'importance. Le Kerala a sa propre architecture tribale et ses propres pratiques de construction qui se sont développées au fil du temps et sont sensibles aux conditions climatiques de la région. Dans le même temps, il existe un scénario d'abandon des maisons fournies aux tribus par le gouvernement et les ONG dans le cadre de divers programmes de logement, car elles ne sont pas conformes à la culture et au mode de vie des populations tribales. La présente étude vise donc à étudier ces différents aspects sociaux et culturels des huttes et des populations tribales existantes afin de leur apporter des solutions d'habitat modernes conformes à leur identité culturelle. Cela contribuera également à atténuer le problème de l'abandon des maisons qui leur sont fournies dans le cadre de différents programmes de logement.
