Se realizó una investigación observacional, analítica y descriptiva con enfoque epidemiológico y anatomopatológico, en un grupo de 34 pacientes VIH/SIDA controlados en el Instituto Autónomo del Hospital Universitario de los Andes, Mérida-Venezuela. El objetivo principal fue conocer las características epidemiológicas de los pacientes, la etiología de las enfermedades pulmonares, el grado de compromiso inmunológico, su evolución clínica y complicaciones. Se evaluaron los datos demográficos y la información clínica. Se tomaron muestras de sangre para el conteo de linfocitos CD4+, cultivo de secreciones y muestras de tejido mediante biopsia transbronquial. El estudio demostró que la enfermedad pulmonar por el Pneumocysti Jiroveci estuvo presente en el 66% de los pacientes. Hubo casos de neumonía bacteriana, Histoplasma capsulatum, infección viral y neoplasia.
