L'œuvre de Grégoire de Nysse, loin d'être un refus du " logos ", offre à la pensée contemporaine la possibilité d'une véritable métamorphose. Repérant deux dimensions essentielles dans la pensée de Grégoire, la séparation radicale et absolue du créé et de l'incréé et le changement comme trait distinctif et constitutif du créé, Alain Durel tente d'exposer de cette pensée ce que nous en saisissons comme philosophie de l'image, du devenir et du désir, philosophie du langage, enfin, où adviennent de véritables métamorphoses de l'ontologie. La théologie mystique de Grégoire de Nysse plonge ses racines dans le judaïsme (la " haggada " revisitée par Philon) et étend son feuillage ombragé jusqu'aux ermitages enneigés de la sainte Russie comme sur les pentes arides du mont Carmel. Pinpointing two essential dimensions in Gregory's thought – firstly the radical and absolute separation between the created and the increated and change as a distinctive and component characteristic of the created - Alain Durel has undertaken to explain that aspect of this thinking in which we detect a philosophy of the image, of becoming and of desire; a philosophy of language, and in conclusion, where the veritable ontological metamorphoses occur. Gregory of Nyssa's mystical theology has its roots deeply embedded in Judaism (the 'Haggada' revisited by Philo) and spreads its shady canopy from the snowbound hermitages of Holy Russia to the arid slopes of Mount Carmel. It could irradiate our post-modern obscurity and make it glow with its own luminous darkness. The 'death of God' is perhaps a Revelation, the Revelation of God who is incomprehensible as love.
