One of the most perplexing issues in dentistry is still choosing the right tint and colour with correlation to natural teeth. Comparable to a massive jigsaw puzzle, shade selection requires precise orientation and placement of each piece in order to get the intended outcome. Shade selection of teeth is a blend of art and science. This process requires knowledge of the dimensions of colour as well as the clinical experience that optimizes the selection process. Since colour assessment by visual means is fraught with variability, advancing technology can potentially resolve colour-matching problems leading to a predictable and accurate assessment of colour in dentistry thus minimizing subjective errors. Hence, this book puts forward the recent advancements and basic knowledge which would aid in shade selection in the field of dentistry.
