Your child can do every part-and still lose the whole task.

Every Part Works is a developmental road map for parents of children ages 5-8, when ordinary life begins asking separate abilities to work together across several steps, short delays, distractions, other people, competing rules, and the result of what just happened.

The book follows four developmental lines:

HOLD A GOAL - keep what matters available through another step, delay, or interruption.
ACT WITH ANOTHER PERSON - keep another person's role, information, or response inside the task.
SEE HOW THINGS FIT - hold more than one rule, relation, or condition together.
LEARN FROM WHAT HAPPENED - use the result of one attempt to change the next.

Through mornings, homework, mistakes, losing, friendship, sibling conflict, fairness, and big emotions, Julian Omes shows why knowing each part is not the same as reliably carrying the whole.

And when the whole thing falls apart, the answer is not always more reminding or reteaching.

You will learn how to identify the part that needs to become easier to use-the goal, the other person, the conditions, or the result-while leaving the child a real next move.

The goal is not to do the task for your child.
