La reflexión ética más importante del pensamiento espańol del S. XIX. Editado por el célebre crítico literario Juan Bautista Bergua, Ediciones Ibéricas. Jaime L. Balmes y Urpiŕ nace en Vic en 1810 y muere en la misma ciudad en 1848. Además de ser filósofo y teólogo -fue ordenado sacerdote en 1834-, Balmes se interesó por la sociología, las matemáticas y la literatura, es decir, que él es uno de los intelectuales más importantes de la Espańa del Siglo XIX. El libro de Balmes titulado Filosofía Elemental (1847) se compone de tres partes. La primera se titula "Lógica", la segunda "Metafísica" y la tercera -que es la que usted tiene en sus manos-, se titula "Ética" y está compuesta por 28 capítulos de distinta extensión. En esta obra podemos encontrar los temas más interesantes y heterogéneos -siempre relacionados con la moral-: żPor qué el ser humano es un ser moral? żCuáles son las condiciones del orden moral? Su crítica al utilitarismo y cuál es la preocupación del hombre para con sus deberes. żPor qué el hombre debe vivir en sociedad? żCuál es el origen del poder público y las relaciones entre el derecho y la moral? Todos estos importantes temas Balmes los explica analizando numerosos problemas y dilemas morales. Presentado por Manuel Fernández de la Cueva, Profesor de Filosofía.
