Fractured Futures

The systems no longer require anyone to remain, to suffer, or to understand what is happening. An observation post continues charting the precise trajectory of a man's despair long after he has walked into the dunes and ceased to generate any measurable signal. An editing suite keeps film moving through the gate after the editor has fallen between the machines. A ticket office prints manifests for arrivals that will never be claimed. A cooling tower accepts what is poured into it long after the last memory worth preserving has been given away. A waiting room stays lit, holding the uncalled dead, after the last nurse has walked out.
These are not stories of resistance, revelation, or final stands. They are the final records of systems that have learned to complete their work without any living thing left to witness, to grieve, or to turn them off.
The Absolute End is not the moment everything breaks. It is the moment after the last person capable of registering the breaking has already been recorded, measured, and filed.
The machines keep running. The manifests keep printing. And somewhere in the growing dark, the last entry is still being written - by nothing, for no one.
