By engaging specific texts by Irigary, Bronte, and Eliot, the author explores a surprising homology that makes materialism a hidden God. That is to say, post-structuralist feminists are caught on the horns of Victorians' obsession: how to chart channels between realms commonly considered approachable and those considered finally inaccessible.
