This volume is the fifth in the Archaeologica Euphratica Series, initially conceived in the mid-1990s by Harald Hauptmann, at the time director of the Istanbul Department of the German Archaeological Institute, as a platform for the publication of research results from his excavations at prehistoric sites in the Upper Euphrates basin in modern-day Southeast Türkiye. After a hiatus of some seventeen years since the appearance of the last volume, the revival of Archaeologica Euphratica is a momentous occasion. The publication series will continue to serve as a platform for research results from this same region, specifically the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Göbekli Tepe, where fieldwork was initiated by Hauptmann and the Sanliurfa Museum in 1994. This new volume (AE5) builds on a manuscript begun by Klaus Schmidt, long-time director of the site. This book offers a state-of-the-art insight into the magnificent decorated T-shaped limestone monoliths of Göbekli Tepe, featuring contributions from several current and past research team members.
