Ce livre explore le comportement des entreprises multinationales dans le contexte d'un pays en développement. Il met en exergue l'interaction entre deux systčmes complexes et dynamiques animés par des logiques différentes se traduisant par un tiraillement constant entre le global et le local. D'un côté, les EMN cherchent activement la standardisation de leurs activités ŕ travers le monde, alors que les pays "en quęte" de développement cherchent ŕ protéger leurs cultures et spécificités locales. Ce livre s'articule autour de la question: "comment les EMN s'adaptent ŕ leur environnement social et répondent aux besoins socio- économiques du pays hôte?". Pour y répondre, nous avons entrepris une recherche sur le terrain choisissant la Malaisie comme contexte d'étude et six filiales d'entreprises multinationales comme unités d'analyse. L'analyse de ces cas permet de dégager un ensemble de facteurs susceptibles d'influencer le comportement des FEM, nous permettant ainsi de souligner la dynamique entre le global et le local. De fait, nous présentons quatre configurations mettant en exergue des besoins d'adaptation locale variables.
