Louis Dumont (1911-1988) was one of the most gifted anthropologists and social scientists of his generation. By the end, we are shown the value of his original insights, and also the continuing relevance of a structuralist approach, developed far beyond the limitations it had when associated exclusively with Levi-Strauss.
