Staline marqué par cette histoire ordonna l’enterrement, côte à côte, de l’aristocrate parisien et du paysan de la Volga. Le geste et la figure de Maurice de Seynes seront dès lors mis en avant ou sciemment oubliés au gré des relations tumultueuses entre nos deux nations.  
À l’occasion du 80e anniversaire de sa mort, sommes-nous encore capables de comprendre comment un homme amoureux de la vie, méfiant vis-à-vis des martyrs, des idéalistes et des moralisateurs, peut-il donner sa vie pour une cause qui le dépasse ?
Plus qu’une biographie, cet ouvrage s’attache à découvrir l’homme derrière le symbole et à comprendre comment, au cours de cette courte vie, s’est construit cet homme d’exception. Incarnation des valeurs de liberté, d’égalité et de fraternité, il laisse un témoignage d’espoir pour les générations futures.
