Personal Responsibility, Reimagined

In Personal Responsibility, Reimagined, Rob Vermiller dismantles the myth of the self-made individual and exposes the hidden architecture beneath our choices-our innate traits. We like to think we choose our ambitions, our self-control, our resilience, our failures. But what if those tendencies were installed long before we ever made a single decision?

Drawing from neuroscience, behavioral genetics, evolutionary psychology, and centuries of philosophy-from Schopenhauer to Rawls-Vermiller argues that fairness requires understanding the biological lottery that shapes every human life. We are born with tendencies. We encounter events. Our tendencies shape our responses. Our responses accumulate into traits. Then we stitch together a story and call it "me."

This is not a book about giving up responsibility. It's about redefining it-and finally imagining a society grounded in compassion, realism, and genuine fairness.

A provocative exploration that will challenge your ideals, unsettle your assumptions, and change the way you think about justice, merit, and what we truly owe each other.
