Robert Kramer (1939-1999) formó parte de una generación de militantes por los derechos civiles y contra la guerra de Vietnam. Nacido en Nueva York, estudió Filosofía e Historia de Europa Occidental, y fue co-fundador del colectivo Newsreel. Tras abandonarlo realizó numerosos trabajos cinematográficos, entre el documental y la ficción, en Estados Unidos y en Francia, donde se exilió durante veinte años por las consecuencias del reaganismo. En este país también ejerció como profesor durante sus últimos años de vida. Esta entrevista con Robert Kramer fue registrada durante el verano de 1997, para la publicación que acompañaba el homenaje al cineasta en el Festival de Turín. La conversación cubre todo el itinerario del realizador, treinta años de vida y de películas. Se tratan las redes de afectos, las tomas de posiciones, los encuentros, las ideas y las impertinencias que constituyen su obra.
