The Intake House

A drought has pulled Bracken Reservoir away from the shore-and uncovered a building that was never supposed to exist.

County records say the Intake House was demolished before the reservoir was filled. But it stands exposed among old roads and forgotten foundations, waiting beneath twenty-one years of lies.

Audra Venn trusts pressure readings, service maps, and facts that can be measured and tested. Then black water runs through shut-off lines. Children's belongings rise from drains. And a voice in the pipes warns her not to open the lower valve.

The last person sent near that valve was Audra's father.
