The October List

Nine-year-old June "Junie" Archer has her own way of knowing when fall has truly arrived, and it has nothing to do with the date on a calendar.

Each October, Junie pays attention to the little things, the first completely red leaf, cool mornings, changing trees, and all the ordinary moments that make autumn feel like autumn. This year, she decides to make a list of everything she wants to notice before the month slips away.

But when her search leads her to a tiny wooden door hidden at the bottom of an old maple tree, Junie discovers a faded note and the beginning of a mystery that has been waiting nearly seventy years to be found.

Following a trail through the familiar places of Willow Lane, Junie uncovers the childhood of a girl named Nell, who once wandered the same streets, watched the same trees change, and made an October list of her own.

As one discovery leads to another, Junie begins to realize that the places we pass every day can hold entire stories, and that growing older doesn't mean leaving behind the things we once loved.
