The Overcomer

Adam Masters has lived a long and difficult life. Having spent his formative years under the thumb of an abusive father, he understands all too well how childhood traumas can shape choices made in later years. He has experienced firsthand the ways in which psychological scars can directly spawn self-destructive behaviors.

During his journey of self-discovery, Adam has also learned that an individual can resist being victimized by past sufferings. Through faith in Jesus, and with the help of the Holy Spirit, Adam has been able to overcome the agonies of his past, and turn his life around.

The question that confounds Adam is how to share his hard-won knowledge with his grandson, Casey, and thereby help him avoid making the same mistakes he made. Adam's solution is to present his life story, both the good and the bad, without embellishment, and with nothing held back.

During the telling, Adam establishes such a high level of intimacy and trust that Casey is able to open up and reveal the terrible secret that no one knew he was hiding, a secret with the potential to ruin his life and demolish his plans for the future.

This is a story about faith, love, mutual respect, plainspoken honesty, and a willingness to bear each other's burdens.
