They Locked Me in a Room

Noah Whitmore has spent most of his life inside a room.

He has learned to watch people from a distance-to read the pauses between their words, the movements they make without noticing, the things they hide even from themselves.

He understands other people remarkably well. He does not understand himself. Then there is Sunshine.

She appears when Noah needs her most. She speaks to him as though she has always known him. She knows things no one should know. Whether she is a memory, an imagined companion, or something beyond either, Noah cannot decide.

But Sunshine knows one thing he has spent years trying to forget:

The room was never simply a room. As Noah begins to uncover the truth about his childhood, his father, his mother, and the locked room beneath the stairs, memories he buried long ago begin to return. And with them comes a question he has spent his entire life avoiding:

What really happened?

Some doors are locked to keep people out. Others are locked to keep the truth inside.

They Locked Me in a Room is a psychological literary novel about memory, love, isolation, imagination, and the fragile boundary between what happened and what we need to believe happened.
