Your Back Door Was Unlocked

She answers 911 calls for a living. Now she's the one who needs help, and nobody believes her.

Two years ago, dispatcher Jo Pell took the call that broke her. Her husband, Danny, went through the ice of Kettle Lake while she talked him through every second of it. Since then she works nights, sleeps days, and keeps the recording on her phone.

Then she comes home to find her bed made. Tight, perfect hospital corners. The way Danny used to make it.

Her phone has been moved. A boot print is drying at the top of her stairs. And when she calls her kind old neighbor Walt from work at two in the morning, he walks through her empty house and tells her gently:

"Your back door was unlocked, Jo. I locked it for you."

It wasn't unlocked.

Someone has a key. Someone is living in her house. And the closer Jo gets to whoever sleeps beneath her floor, the clearer it becomes that Danny's death was no accident, and that a secret was buried at 14 Inlet Road seventeen years ago, and kept by more than one person.

Your Back Door Was Unlocked is a twisting psychological thriller.

Lock your doors. Then check them again.
