Stellan Skarsgård stars in this drama co-written and directed by Joachim Trier. After the death of their mother, sisters Nora (Renate Reinsve) and Agnes (Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas) are forced to face their difficult family history when their estranged father Gustav (Skarsgård) re-enters their lives. A film director, he left Norway after his divorce and focused on his career which is now in decline. He wants to make a film inspired by his mother but when Nora, an actress, refuses to play her or even read the script, he casts American star Rachel Kemp (Elle Fanning) instead and the production becomes increasingly troubled. The cast also includes Anders Danielsen Lie, Jesper Christensen and Cory Michael Smith.
